Chautauqua Park is the number one tourist destination in the Boulder area, offering recreation and hiking with incredible views of the Flatiron Mountains. In 2016, the City of Boulder was struggling to manage the number of visitors who wanted to park cars, for free, near its entrance.
JWA helped the City devise a transit service that, together with a parking management program, controlled demand for road space near the park and offered visitors an inexpensive way to access the park.
JWA designed multiple service concepts and estimated operating costs and fleet requirements.
The City implemented the first pilot project in 2017, and has continued running this summertime service ever since.
